박제가의 「송백영숙기린협서」에 나타난 우정론 연구: 곤궁 상황에서의 벗의 의미와 가치

본 연구는 조선후기 실학자 박제가(1750-1805)의 고전수필 「송백영숙기린협서(送白永叔基麟峽序)」를 통해 그의 우정론을 체계적으로 분석한다. 박제가는 이 작품에서 '곤궁할 때 사귄 벗이 세상에서 가장 친밀한 벗'이라는 명제를 제시하며, 우정의 깊이는 물질적 도움이 아닌 처지의 '통함'과 진실한 마음의 교감에서 비롯된다고 주장한다. 본 연구는 작품의 배경이 되는 백동수의 생애와 북학파 문인들의 교유 관계를 밝히고, 텍스트를 처음-중간-끝의 구조로 세분화하여 분석함으로써 박제가 우정론의 철학적 기초를 규명한다. 특히 박지원의 우정론과의 비교를 통해 박제가의 우정론이 육체적 현전성과 상호적 이해에 기반한 실천적 우정관임을 밝힌다. 본 연구는 18세기 조선 지식인들의 우정 개념이 단순한 감정적 유대를 넘어 사회적 현실을 공유하는 공동체적 가치를 담고 있음을 보여준다.

This study systematically analyzes Park Je-ga's (1750-1805) theory of friendship through his classical essay 'Song Baek Yeong-suk Girin Hyeop-seo.' Park Je-ga argues that 'friends made in poverty are the most intimate friends in the world,' and that the depth of friendship stems not from material assistance but from shared circumstances and genuine emotional exchange. By examining Baek Dong-su's life and the relationships among Buk-hak-pa (Northern Learning) scholars, and by analyzing the text through a tripartite structure, this study clarifies the philosophical foundations of Park Je-ga's theory of friendship. Through comparison with Park Ji-won's friendship theory, it demonstrates that Park Je-ga's theory is based on physical presence and mutual understanding. This research reveals that 18th-century Joseon intellectuals' concept of friendship transcended mere emotional bonds to embody communal values rooted in shared social realities.
