This study analyzes the visual effects (VFX) of director Jo Sung-hee's science fiction film 'Space Sweepers,' released on Netflix in 2021, to clarify the technical achievements and artistic significance of Korean cinema. As Korea's first large-scale space SF blockbuster set in 2092, 'Space Sweepers' is examined through the lens of space environment implementation, digital worldbuilding, the relationship between visual effects and mise-en-scène, and the integration of narrative and VFX. The research reveals that the film's VFX functions not merely as technical decoration but as a directorial device that visualizes themes including the hierarchical structure of future society, environmental destruction, labor realities, and community ethics. Through the expression of spatial distance in space, the implementation of texture in spacecraft and backgrounds, and the emotional expression of digital characters, the work creates audience immersion. Furthermore, this work demonstrates that VFX in Korean cinema has shifted from a supplementary technology to a core technology for worldbuilding, presenting possibilities for large-scale VFX film production and distribution in the OTT era.
