This paper systematically analyzes the relationship between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and theory of mind (ToM). While traditionally explaining social communication difficulties in autism through ToM deficits, this study re-examines recent neuroimaging research and multidimensional analyses, suggesting that autistic individuals' mind-reading abilities represent not a simple deficit but an alternative information processing pathway. Introducing the concept of the double empathy problem, this paper reinterprets communication difficulties not as individual deficits but as interactive contextual issues. The research incorporates sensory processing differences, strength-based approaches, and socio-ecological understanding of resilience, proposing neurodiversity-affirming practices for counseling and educational settings. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes the importance of respecting minds over reading minds.
